A simple but delicious cake recipe:

Put flour and sugar in a large enough bowl. Make a hollow in the center. Stir half of the milk with the yeast and pour into the hollow form. Allow to swell for 15 minutes. Melt the butter in the remaining milk, add the beaten eggs and knead into a dough. Cover and let rise for about half an hour.

Peel the apples, remove the core, dice finely. Add the raisins, currants and candied orange peel to the dough and knead. Let rise for another 15 minutes. Use two tablespoons to make small doughnuts and bake in the fat at 175 °C for about 4 minutes until golden brown. Drain and roll in sugar. Makes about 16 pieces.
